Most staircases we manufacture are “standard construction” in that the area is held together using wedges and glue blocks, meaning the underside of the staircase needs to be covered.
However, we can manufacture stairs which are “exposed back”. Exposed back stairs do not have any wedges of glue blocks, so there’s no need to cover the underside, creating a feature that can look very impressive.
This staircase features oak treads (22mm) and risers (18mm). Meaning these stairs do not need to be carpeted.
Oak treads & risers enhance the look of the stairs.
However, it should be noted that stairs without a carpet have less grip than those with a carpet.
We also offer treads and risers in other materials and thicknesses.
Solid timber risers are required for exposed back stairs.
Please note; the first to second floor staircase has pine treads & risers.
The majority of stairs feature square posts & spindles.
However, the stop-chamfered posts and spindles on this staircase have a feature on each corner, which can be seen in the photos.
A feature tread to the bottom of a staircase adds an interesting detail.
This staircase features a "single going curtail", which protrudes past the width of the stairs.
Single going curtail treads are excellent if you have space for them. However, if you don't, you can also opt for a different feature tread (such as a bullnose) which doesn't protrude past the width of the stair.
As seen from the photos, this case study contains two staircases.
These are connected with a gallery landing, creating a nice feature.
