Black Stained Oak:

While most people appreciate the natural beauty of an oak staircase and want a clear finish, the client opted to stain this stair black using Osmo Polyx®-Oil Satin Black. It may seem unusual, but the results speak for themselves.
You may wonder, "Why not just have the stairs pine and paint them black?".
The answer is that black paint will chip off, whereas a stain will not.
Also, with a stain, you can still see the grain and beauty of oak, whereas with paint, you cannot.

No overhang, square profile treads:

The "standard" way to have a staircase is where each tread has a 20mm overhang past the riser, and the front of each tread has a round profile.
However, the customer opted for no overhang and a square profile for this staircase.
Doing this creates the look of a thicker tread as they almost merge into one.
"Square-edged" and "no overhang" treads are generally considered to look more modern.

Part Open Riser - Timber:

On a standard staircase, the risers are solid, letting no light through; however, with an open riser staircase, part of the riser is left open. Due to building regulations, open riser stairs must not allow a 100mm sphere to pass, so part of the riser must be closed off, usually with a part timber riser or a metal bar. In the case of this staircase, a part timber riser has been used to leave a 99mm gap.

Glass On Clamps:

We offer glass panels either:

  • On clamps (with a choice of style and finish)
  • Embedded into a groove within the handrail & baserail.

This staircase features glass on clamps - Square, brushed metal.

We offer glass clamps in D-Shape or Square style.
Finished in either; Brushed Metal, Polished Metal or Black Metal.

We went for a full oak Staircase. The design and exact specification took some time, and the design team were patient with me. As soon as we saw it you could see the solid oak, and the top quality workmanship. After lots of research, we decided to stain the oak black satin finish. The finished product is amazing, you can see the oak grain and it looks stunning in black. The glass balustrade also adds an open and contemporary feel. Everyone who has entered our house, notices the staircase right away - it looks expensive and very good quality! Many thanks to the team at TK stairs, we absolutely love our new staircase!
