N.B. The price shown is based on the staircase above and calculated based on current pricing.
Open riser stairs allow more light to flow through them, benefiting many properties and making a room feel bigger.
A bar of some description must be used to achieve the building regulation requirement of not allowing a 100mm sphere to pass through.
It can be in the form of a timber bar or metal bar.
You can have square or round metal bars with a polished, brushed or black finish.
When using metal riser bars, there's no support for the tread in the form of a riser below it.
As such, thicker treads are needed. We use 44mm treads following BWF guidelines.
There are numerous options for finishing the fronts of the treads on a staircase. However, for this staircase, the customer opted for the treads to overhang 20mm past the front of the riser and for the edges to have a "pencil round" (8mm radius).
A pencil rounded edge gives the edges of the treads a less sharp appearance than using a square edge.
This staircase features a square bullnose (tread one).
A bullnose feature tread allows the post to be set back, which can make the area feel more spacious and improve its aesthetics.
A more traditional curved feature tread would look out of place within the context of such a modern staircase.
We've also covered the back of the feature tread with matching riser material, so the construction detail isn't visible.
The metal balusters on this staircase are black to match the rest of the staircase's aesthetic.
We supply these at the correct length. They sit into a groove within the handrail and baserail, and the gaps are filled with the provided infill.
We're very happy with the way the stairs look.
