When there's a 90° turn, such as on these stairs, it's possible to either have:
Regardless of the chosen option, the total number of treads in the staircase will be the same. As such, using a kite winder is more space-efficient.
However, on this staircase, a quarter landing was chosen because it is more pleasant to walk up than a kite winder; this means that the additional two treads at the bottom were required.
This staircase is the central feature of this double-height feature hallway.
An oak staircase can enhance a hallway and make everything pop.
In a scenario like this, there is only two treads before the turn.
You have three options, either:
Using a feature tread when there's one or two treads before the first turn makes a lot of sense, as it looks great and is often cheaper.
Feature treads also have the advantage of making the room feel bigger.
In this scenario it stops the stairs clashing with the door.
This staircase features oak treads (22mm) and oak veneered risers (10mm), which means it does not need to be carpeted.
Oak treads & risers enhance the look of the stairs. However, it should be noted that stairs without a carpet have less grip than those with a carpet.
We also offer treads and risers in other materials and thicknesses.
