Case Studies - White Painted & White Oak cut string staircase with metal balusters.

REF: 14296-mcclelland

3D Model;

Notable Features:

Cut String Staircase:

Cut string staircases provide considerable flexibility in creating a unique staircase. This cut string stair is manufactured in a "traditional" style, with the risers mitred to the strings and the rounded profile treads overhanging both the front and side by 20mm.

Black Metal Balusters:

12mm black metal balusters are an ever-popular choice. To make them work with a cut string staircase, generally, the best approach is to use a square baluster which fits into a square hole on the tread, then a groove in the handrail with infill between each baluster. We can supply black metal balusters with stairs of all construction types.

Stained Oak Components:

The oak treads, handrails, baserail, posts & caps have been stained darker to better suit the client's interior. Osmo offers numerous products for this and can supply sample pots. We can provide oak offcuts to test them on before committing to staining your stairs to ensure you get the desired colour and finish. The client also opted to paint some components on this staircase white to create a contrast and further enhance the stair's appearance.

Oak Curtail Feature Tread:

A feature tread to the bottom of a staircase adds an interesting detail. This staircase features a "single going curtail", which protrudes past the width of the stairs by 175mm. Single going curtail treads are excellent if you have space for them. However, if you don't, you can also opt for a different feature tread (such as a bullnose) which doesn't protrude past the width of the stair.

Paddle Staircases:

Also known as space saver or loft staircases, these are half the length of a normal staircase but can only be used in certain scenarios.

Other Layouts:

We also offer other staircase layouts, these include, paddle stairs, S-shape stairs, T-shape stairs or stairs with three or more turns. We also offer stairs suitable for commercial buildings which are wider and made from more substantial materials than domestic staircases.

Styles & Materials

Construction Methods:

All layouts of staircases can be constructed in different ways which will effect the final finish, these include:

  • Open riser construction; this is where the risers are left open with either a timber strip or metal bar built in to comply to regulations.
  • Cut string construction; where the sides of the strings are cut away so the treads can be seen, this can either be done in a modern or traditional way.

Materials:

The materials used on your staircase will have a dramatic effect on how they look, most stairs will use the following materials.

  • Pine; all our stairs are manufactured from high quality furniture grade pine, we do not use any whitewood.
  • White Oak; we can manufacture all or part(s) of your staircase from premium White Oak, to give that stunning finish.
  • Glass; we offer stairs with glass balustrade, either as small panels or large panels, secured with brackets or by embedding with a groove.
