Space saver stairs, also known as loft stairs or paddle stairs. They should only be used where a normal staircase cannot and only serve one room. This staircase was used to reach a mezzanine area and met these criteria. However, we do not recommend space saver stairs. For more information on this type of staircase, see our blog post here.
Open riser stairs allow more light to flow through them, which can benefit many properties. They can also make a room feel bigger.
We offer open riser stairs with all kinds of staircases, including paddle (space saver) stairs such as this.
A bar of some description must be used to achieve the building regulation requirement of not allowing a 100mm sphere to pass through.
This can be in the form of a timber bar or metal bar.
In this case it's a metal bar, as seen in the photos.
When using metal riser bars, there's no support for the tread in the form of a riser below it.
As such, thicker treads are needed. We use 44mm treads following BWF guidelines.
Excellent service, delivered on time and by a very careful delivery driver. Excellent quality and exactly what we wanted.
