Stop Chamfered Posts & Spindles:

The majority of stairs feature square posts & spindles.
However, the stop-chamfered posts and spindles on this staircase have a feature on each corner, which can be seen in the photos.

Half Turn With Quarter Landings:

This stair features two turns. For each turn, you have the option of;

  • A kite winder (three treads in the turn)
  • A quarter landing (one tread in the turn)

A kite winder saves space as you're putting three treads in the same area where you'd only have one tread if it were a quarter landing. This means you need fewer treads in the straight runs.

However, if you have the space, a quarter landing looks better, costs less and is more pleasant to walk up.

Shallow staircase:

The maximum pitch for domestic building regulations (in a house) is 42°. The majority of stairs we manufacture are to 42°.
However, if you have the space and want a more pleasant staircase to walk up, it's possible to have the pitch shallower (less steep) than 42°.

At only 38.5°, this staircase is significantly shallower (less steep) than the maximum allowable 42°, so although it will take up more space, it will be far nicer to walk up and look more aesthetically pleasing.

Gallery Landing Area With Spindles:

At the top of this staircase, there's a gallery landing area which goes all the way around the stairs, creating an exciting feature and helping this staircase make a real statement.
The 41mm oak stop chamfered posts spindles the client picked finish it off nicely.

Carpet Runner:

Carpet runners work best on a wide staircase because space is at a premium on a narrow staircase, so a carpet runner probably wouldn't look aesthetically correct on a narrow stair.
This staircase being relatively wide, a carpet runner works well.

Quarter Landing Turns:

When there's a quarter turn on a staircase, that turn can be either a kite winder or a quarter landing.
Quarter landings take up more space than a kite winder. However, they're cheaper, more pleasant to walk up, and, it can be argued, look better.

This staircase benefits from two quarter landings which looks great!
