N.B. The price shown is based on the staircase above and calculated based on current pricing.
On the second flight, this staircase features a balustrade on both sides; it has been designed this way as it needs a balustrade here to fill the gap due to the layout of the house.
An alternative to having a balustrade here would have been to have glass within the gap. However, given the style of the property, the customer didn't believe that glass was the correct solution.
As seen in the photos, this staircase was manufactured "standard construction, " meaning that wedges and glue blocks are used on the underside of the stairs to hold everything together.
This is the norm; the stairs will be boarded and plastered later.
We offer numerous options for feature treads. However, this staircase's traditional curved bullnose feature tread is still the most popular choice.
Traditional bullnoses have the following advantages:
As standard, posts & spindles on stairs are square.
However, on this staircase, the client opted to have them "stop chamfered", which is the extra detail on each edge seen in the photos.
Stop chamfered balustrade gives a different look that can suit both traditional and modern interiors. It particularly suits barn conversions such as this property.
If an oak stair is to be carpeted, it doesn't make sense to supply the treads and risers oak, given the cost saving.
As such, this staircase features MDF treads and plywood risers, ideally suited to carpeting.
