Our Paddle StairDesigner is live!
You can now design paddle stairs directly on our website using our online tool!
Paddle stairs differ from conventional staircases in that they use "paddles" for treads, which means they're a lot steeper even though each tread is still the same length (220mm) as a conventional staircase.
Due to their construction and normal use, they're also known as:
- Space saver stairs
- Alternating tread stairs
- Loft stairs
However, regardless of the name given to them, they're all the same.
Our new tool is the only one online (as far as we're aware, anyway) that lets you design, price and buy paddle stairs in real-time 3D.

Where Are Paddle Stairs Be Used?
Primarily, Lofts Conversions:
Paddle stairs can only be used legally (within building regulations) in certain circumstances.
These are:
- For loft access, i.e. into a loft room.
- Only serve one habitable room (for example, one bedroom in a loft).
- It's also fine to have a bathroom in the room the paddle stair serves, but this must not be the only one in the house.
- Only in circumstances where it's not possible to use a normal staircase.
To summarise, paddle stairs can only be used for loft conversions, which contain a single bedroom and en-suite bathroom when a normal staircase cannot be used for that loft conversion.

Why did we create a Paddle StairDesigner?
We created this for two reasons:
- To make our lives easier, create quotes for customers for paddle stairs faster and more efficiently.
- To give our customers the ability to design, price and buy this type of staircase online.
How We Created It?
We created this new tool by adding to and extending the existing StairDesigner tool.
We achieved this by working in-house to create the logic and specification and then collaborating closely with software developer Rolley to make this tool.
