Notable Features:

Oak & Painted Staircase:

When specifying and buying a staircase, there are many material options available.
Often, customers opt for the entire staircase in oak or to paint the whole staircase.
However, a mix of materials, such as in the case of this staircase, can look quite effective and is much more cost-effective than having the entire stair in oak.

We do not generally recommend painting the "touch points", i.e. handrail caps & treads, as the paint can easily chip and look unsightly.
This stair follows that rule featuring oak treads, handrail and caps, with the rest of the stair painted.

Feature Treads:

This staircase features two feature treads.
- Tread one is a double-going curtail (square).
- Tread two is a single-going curtail (square).

These two feature treads allow the bottom post to be set back by two treads (approx 500mm). Allowing the hallway to feel bigger and giving the staircase a grander appearance.
On this staircase, it also means flight one can be balustrade free.

Quarter Landing:

A turn can be either a quarter landing or a kite winder.
Quarter landings are more pleasant to walk up but take up more space.

With a kite winder, you get three treads within roughly the same space as a quarter landing, which is one tread.
As there's ample space, this staircase features a quarter landing.

Styles & Materials

Construction Methods:

All layouts of staircases can be constructed in different ways which will effect the final finish, these include:

  • Open riser construction; this is where the risers are left open with either a timber strip or metal bar built in to comply to regulations.
  • Cut string construction; where the sides of the strings are cut away so the treads can be seen, this can either be done in a modern or traditional way.

Materials:

The materials used on your staircase will have a dramatic effect on how they look, most stairs will use the following materials.

  • Pine; all our stairs are manufactured from high quality furniture grade pine, we do not use any whitewood.
  • White Oak; we can manufacture all or part(s) of your staircase from premium White Oak, to give that stunning finish.
  • Glass; we offer stairs with glass balustrade, either as small panels or large panels, secured with brackets or by embedding with a groove.
